5 Weeks

Today marks the beginning of our 5th week of pregnancy and our little one is moving right along. Last week our baby was just a poppy seed and now, he/she has grown into a little apple seed. Sometimes this journey seems like it is so long and meeting our baby is so far away. Then, at other times, it seems like this is all happening so fast and we’re just caught in a whirlwind of emotions and things to do!

Excitement tends to be the prevalent emotion we’ve got going on, tinged with a bit of apprehension and some minor panic attacks. But that’s okay, I’m sure we’ll feel all these emotions and more a lot over the next 9 months and…well for the rest of our lives as moms. We have our ultrasound coming up later this week, and while the baby probably won’t look like much more than a gray blob in a sea of black, we can’t wait to see him/her. I think it will just make this all feel much more real and we can stop pinching ourselves each morning and realize that we’re not dreaming – this is really happening. 🙂

Your baby (looking more like a tadpole than a human) is the size of an apple seed and starting to form major organs (heart, kidney, liver, stomach) and systems (nervous, circulatory, digestive). Baby is getting ready to have a growth spurt and should double in size during the next week! Grow, baby grow!

Here’s what baby looks like inside the womb!
