7 Weeks

Despite a rough start to this week in baby’s life, we have arrived safely at the weekend and therefore the 7 week mark. Baby is now a yummy little blueberry!! Every day we are so thankful for the little one growing inside of J’s belly and never take it for granted. Of course J knows the baby is in there, what with the nausea, heartburn, indigestion, and sleepless nights. Our baby’s not waiting until after its born to start keeping her up all night!

This past Sunday, J started spotting. It was not bright red and she wasn’t having cramps, but it was still terrifying. Coupled with the fact that it happened after we…um…had some “adult time” together, I felt so guilty and worried that I had hurt her or the baby! The thought of losing the baby we’d worked so hard for wrecked us. She called the doctor and I, of course, Googled the hell out of it, and apparently this is a pretty normal occurrence at this stage in pregnancy. Of course, couple that with the fact that the rate of miscarriage is generally higher in the first trimester and before you hear the heartbeat, we were so scared and worried for our little one. The doctor abated our fears and advised J to take it easy for a few days (and no “adult time” for a little while). We have our next ultrasound appointment this upcoming Thursday and we will get to hear the heartbeat then. I’m sure that will help ease some of our concerns and fears as well once we hear that little heart pumping away. πŸ™‚

Its so hard to know that there is someone in there, but that you can’t see them or touch them yet. We are both so impatient and can’t wait to meet our little guy or girl that’s hiding out in there. Speaking of, we want a boy. J thinks it will be a girl but I think it will be a boy. Wishful thinking? I guess we still have a couple months until we find out who’s right. πŸ™‚

In the meantime, during this upcoming week our blueberry is turning into a raspberry and he/she’s having a party! Well not exactly, but J’s mom is hosting a party for our families and some friends in honor of our wedding in April. We are so blessed. We were going along thinking that eloping was all we would do, but her mom surprised us by saying she wanted to throw us a party. Now its turned into a huge shindig of like 50 people (of course the majority of those guests are J’s family…its our Big Gay Jewish Wedding Party LOL)! Its going to be a great time and we can’t wait to see everyone.

I will post pictures after the ultrasound on Thursday. Wish us all luck!

7 Weeks

Baby has doubled in size again this week and is as big as a blueberry now (about 1/2 inch long)! Both hemispheres of baby’s brain are developing fast, generating about 100 new cells every minute, and the heart is also becoming more complex. Arm and leg joints are now forming and baby’s third (and final) set of kidneys is in place. Baby still has a bit of a tail for now, but it will disappear and become the tailbone within a few weeks.

Our little blueberry is starting to look like a person in there!
