Goodbye 2012, Hello 2013

Happy New Year everyone! At the beginning of each year, I choose to sit down and reflect on the happenings of the past year and think about what I would like to see happen in the new year. This year is definitely no different. There have been some difficulties in 2012 for sure, and while none of them were necessarily catastrophic or tragic, we both just felt like 2012 was just not a great year for us overall. I wouldn’t trade this year for anything however, as it brought us some of the happiest memories of our lives together thus far and began a journey to motherhood that has been nothing short of amazing. So in the spirit of remembering 2012, here are just a few of our highlights!

April 27, 2012: We finally got married! We spent the weekend in Washington, D.C. and enjoyed the sights and finally tied the knot. We had an amazing time there and it was our first “real” vacation (meaning, we flew away and no family was involved LOL). It felt so good to finally become married, despite the iffy legal status in the rest of the country. We did the right thing for ourselves and our future family, and it felt like we accomplished something normal, something that every couple in the world strives to achieve. So many times gay couples are pinned as being abnormal or different, when that isn’t the case a lot of the time. We want the same things many straight couples want also – marriage, kids, a family, love. Just because our genetics determine a different gender preference than what is considered mainstream doesn’t mean its wrong. Love is love, and love is beautiful! I married my best friend, and I couldn’t be happier.

May/June 2012:We got pregnant! So many bloggers and friends we know have struggled with getting pregnant via donor sperm and/or artificial insemination, so we know what a blessing getting pregnant on the 2nd try was. Despite the discomforts of pregnancy these past 8 months, J has been a real trooper and we have never lost sight of that which we look most forward to – the birth of our son. 2013 will be an amazing year if for nothing else than Jaxson Bennett will finally be here, in our arms, for us to love and nourish!

October 2012: We launched our cheesecake business, Jonesin’ for Cheesecake! While we are still a small operation we have been blessed with several orders and only hope to see our business grow in 2013. We are even starting off the year right with having a return order in January! YAY! I am sure that with hard work and determination, we can grow our business and become successful!

So with our past successes of this year behind us, we look forward to 2013 and the good things it will surely bring to us. It is already bringing us one of the greatest events of all and we can’t wait to meet little Jaxson. I can’t believe that there are only 40 more days until his due date as of today. I am sure that time will fly by but I hope to enjoy as much of it as possible.

We don’t make resolutions, per se, but this year we would like to see two things happen: We both want to get back into good healthy habits once Jaxson is here, and continue our weight loss journey which we started before J got pregnant. And we want to pay down our debts, grow our savings, and improve our credit ratings so that we can buy a house next year. I just have a feeling that this is going to be a GREAT year! And I am so glad that we have made friends, both locally and internationally through this blog, to share in our journey. I hope everyone has a great 2013, too. 🙂

Love,

B & J (and soon Jaxson too!)
