Pottying, Pacifiers & Progress

Jaxson has used the potty twice in the last week! The first time, he was outside playing when he took up “the stance” – he basically stops dead in his tracks and has one foot propped up on toes – and J asked if he was going to poop. He said yes, and she asked if he wanted to go sit on the potty. He said yes, and she asked him again to be sure, and another yes. So they trekked inside, he sat on his little potty, and pooped. The second time was this weekend, during dinner. He was in the middle of eating and goes, “Uh oh! Poo-poo!” and starts leaning forward in his booster seat. I asked if he needed to go sit on the potty and he said yes, so in we went. And he pooped again!

He hasn’t really peed in the potty yet, but he tries to. He looks down at it like “C’mon man! Go!” and he got a few drops out the other day but we have yet to have a real pee in the potty (to be fair, he would have done it once but didn’t sit on the potty in time and ended up peeing all over the floor instead LOL). I’ve heard that getting them to poop on the potty can be harder to do, so at least he’s getting the hang of that part! We’re not actively trying to potty train him and kind of just letting him do his own thing at his own pace, and it seems to be working out so far. He enjoys using the potty much more than getting his diaper changed, so we keep telling him, “If you don’t want diapers anymore, you have to use the potty.”

Another big boy thing that happened recently was stopping the use of the nu-nu’s (pacifiers). We wanted him to be done with them when he turned two, so I think we’ve done pretty well being only a month late! We didn’t do an elaborate ritual of weaning him off of them. Instead, we put them away one day and told him nu-nu’s are for babies and he’s a big boy now so no more nu-nu’s. He will still ask for them occasionally at nap- or bed-time, but we just tell him again that they are gone now and he moves right on.

His language is also exploding. It’s so exciting to hear him form sentences and actually have a conversation with you now! And this boy makes me proud with his excellent grammar skills! Example: On Sunday my parents went to Sam’s Club and picked us up a pack of diapers. They brought them over to us on the way home, and when Jax went down for bed that night, we talked about his day and I mentioned seeing Grandma/Grandpa and he he says, “Grandma bought die-dees, too!” Then when he was talking on the phone with Nana/Papa on Sunday after they got home from their trip, he says, “Nana is home! Papa is home!” This boy is a genius. I’m amazed that our little boy is becoming such a big, smart, wonderful boy right before our eyes.

In other news, we got J’s taxes filed (finally!) and ordered more sperm, so we are getting back in the game soon. I’m nervous but not worried, and just so excited to be making progress again. We are not going to be as public this time (on Facebook) about TTC so that it relieves some of the pressure I’ve been putting on myself. Our remaining number of tries is limited, so I want to alleviate as much stress as I can to help give us a better chance each time. I’ve started using a natural progesterone cream to help regulate the back-end of my cycle and I also got some cassava supplements that are supposed to help with egg quality/follicle development/ovulation. J and I figure if we can do anything at all to improve our chances, then let’s do it. I know it will happen soon. We told Jaxson we’ll be having a baby soon, and we asked him what it will be (boy or girl) and he says, “Baby sister!” I hope you’re right, buddy!

Kudos to Jax for starting to go on the potty! Hopefully just as you have him out of diapers, you’ll be looking forward to putting a new little one in them!
